Masterclass on Gregorian chant and choral literature
Mass compositions from the Middle Ages and Renaissance

leader Ulrike Heider Sweden

In 2004, the Banchetto Musicale early music festival began putting on masterclasses. Last year at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, an outstanding Russian pianist and harpsichord player Alexander Puliaev from Germany gave a masterclass on music by Mozart and his contemporaries. Dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart, the masterclass on keyboard and chamber music from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th centuries attracted much attention from Lithuanian students, teachers and experienced performers. The participants also had an exciting possibility of getting acquainted with an instrument of Mozart’s times, the pianoforte, which was brought especially for this event from Germany.

This year, on October 8–11, at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the musicologist, conductor and expert on church music Ulrike Heider from Sweden will give a masterclass on Gregorian chant and choral literature. Organised in cooperation with the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the masterclass will be open to Lithuanian and foreign choir conductors and singers, as well as to everybody interested in the theory and practice of liturgical singing, and will deal with the issues of Gregorian chant and mass compositions from the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

The masterclass is free. All registered participants will be given Certificates of Attendance on completion of the courses.
