Andrzej Szadejko – organ (Poland)
The organ culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is the subject of intensive research and rediscovery. Once an impressive landscape, its documentation has fallen prey to the destruction wrought by war and occupation. Due to the tireless efforts of researchers and performers, particularly during recent years, this music has found its way back into our attention. Today, we are discovering more and more about the magnificent musical life of the cultural centres across the former Polish-Lithuanian geographical space – such as this organ recital, which captures different moments from three centuries of organ music.
Organist, composer, conductor and scholar Andrzej Szadejko is a Professor at the Academy of Music in Gdansk, and has an impressive record of concerts across Poland and abroad, CD recordings, and published articles. He is also an adviser and expert in the restoration and reconstruction of historical organs in both Poland and Lithuania, including the new organ of the Franciscan Church / The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Vilnius, which was inaugurated in June this year.
