Teodoro Riccio (c.1540–c.1601) was a highly esteemed Kapellmeister during the second half of the 16th century. His most important post, in which he remained until the end of his life, was at the court of the Margrave Georg Friedrich of Ansbach-Brandenburg (1539–1603), who moved to Königsberg when he became administrator of the Duchy of Prussia in 1578, taking his whole retinue of court musicians with him. Riccio wrote in the polychoral style, and his religious works – psalms and mass settings – found echoes beyond confessional borders, being accepted in both Catholic and Protestant liturgy alike, in the Duchy of Prussia, as well as in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Conductor, organist and harpsichordist Detlef Bratschke is the artistic director of the renowned Balthasar Neumann Choir, and a professor at the University for the Arts in Bremen. His extensive experience in the field of early music has spanned decades since his early career as a boy soprano, during which time he worked with legendary figures including Gustav Leonhardt or Philippe Herreweghe.
