Le tarantelle del rimorso
Traditional Southern Italian tarantellas
Pino de Vittorio – voice, battente guitar, Italy
Marcello Vitale – classical guitar, Italy
The famous Italian actor and singer Pino de Vittorio has compiled his concert programme from the music of southern Italy which could be heard in his native Taranto. The popular folk dance, the tarantella, has been named after this location, which was also obscurely associated with tarantism, an illness or form of hysteria that developed after being bitten by a tarantula. In 14th-century Italy, victims of this spider’s bite were said to recover only after dancing the frenzied tarantella.
Playing their guitars, Pino de Vittoria and Marcello Vitale shall present Tarantella del rimorso – a version of the dance from the Puglia region, as well as Italian songs. Pino de Vittorio, who holds this repertoire particularly close to his heart, is a regular participant in various contemporary drama productions, well-known early music ensembles, and has released early music recordings that have earnt him wide critical acclaim.
